SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is the cornerstone of your online presence and can significantly impact the success of your healthcare practice. It’s important to note that SEO is a multifaceted endeavor that involves a range of factors and techniques tailored to the unique needs of healthcare businesses. Google considers many, many different things when determining which websites to rank at the top of search results.

At Simplified SEO Consulting, we have garnered extensive experience working with private practices in the healthcare sector. This blog post delves into the SEO strategy that has proven most effective for healthcare professionals and practices based on our wealth of experience and success stories.

What does SEO mean in simple terms?

Simply put, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), is the process of optimizing your website to improve its visibility on search engines like Google. The goal is to rank higher in search results for relevant keywords, making it easier for people to find your website and the services you offer.

What are the top SEO strategies for business?

When it comes to SEO, there’s no shortage of strategies and tactics that claim to boost your online presence. However, at Simplified SEO Consulting, we believe in simplifying the process and focusing on the factors that truly make a difference for healthcare businesses. Our approach to SEO emphasizes the essential elements that drive results, ensuring that your practice stands out in the competitive healthcare landscape.

How do you do SEO on a website: A 7-Step Plan as an SEO Strategy for Private Practices in the Healthcare Industry

1) Start with a technically sound website that really represents your practice

The foundation of any successful SEO strategy begins with a technically sound website. Your website serves as your digital storefront, and it should reflect your brand identity accurately. Ensuring that it’s well-designed, user-friendly, and optimized for both desktop and mobile devices is crucial.

2) Keyword Research

Keyword research serves as the foundation of a successful healthcare SEO strategy. It’s the process of identifying the precise words and phrases potential patients enter into search engines when seeking services like yours. At Simplified SEO Consulting, we recognize the significance of personalized keyword research that aligns with your individual practice and the unique characteristics of your patient base.

When delving into healthcare SEO keywords, it’s essential to consider the specifics of your medical practice. Each healthcare niche and specialization has distinct keywords and phrases that resonate with potential patients. For example, if you’re a chiropractor, your keyword research should pinpoint phrases like “chiropractic care for back pain” or “spinal adjustment in [your location].” This level of customization ensures that you’re targeting the most relevant and effective keywords to attract patients genuinely interested in your services.

Blog posts throughout our website further explain the process of identifying healthcare SEO keywords using practical examples. But the bottom line is, we emphasize that this tailored approach to keyword research is instrumental in elevating your online visibility and connecting with patients who genuinely need your expertise.

3) Create and consistently post great content that demonstrates your expertise and speaks directly to your ideal clients

Content is king in the digital realm, and it’s no different for healthcare practices. Creating high-quality, informative content that showcases your expertise and directly addresses the needs and concerns of your ideal patients is paramount. Regularly posting valuable content not only engages your audience but also strengthens your website’s authority in the eyes of search engines.

4) Excellent on-page SEO

On-page SEO optimization is the fine-tuning process that ensures each page of your website is primed for search engine visibility. Basic on-page SEO practices include optimizing meta descriptions, strategically incorporating relevant healthcare SEO keywords, using subheadings to structure your content, optimizing images, and including internal links to other relevant pages within your website. Discover why on-page SEO is important for your healthcare practice’s success.

5) Regular blogging

Blogging is a powerful tool in your SEO arsenal. Consistent, informative, and engaging blog posts not only keep your website fresh and up-to-date but also provide valuable information to your audience. Blogging helps establish your authority in your healthcare niche and keeps your practice relevant in the digital landscape.

6) Local SEO

Local SEO is particularly crucial for healthcare providers with physical practices. It encompasses a range of strategies aimed at helping Google understand your practice’s location and relevance within specific geographic areas

What is Local SEO for doctors & other healthcare professionals?

It involves various techniques to ensure that your practice appears prominently in local search results when potential patients search for healthcare services in your vicinity. This includes optimizing your Google My Business listing, managing local citations, and tailoring your content to target local keywords and patient needs in your area.

7) Building High Quality Backlinks

Organic SEO vs. PPC: Pros and Cons

Many of our clients often ask what the benefits of organic SEO vs. PPC ads are. They both serve a purpose specific to driving consumers to your business. They just accomplish this goal with different tactics and strategies. Let’s take a look at both of these concepts and see what they have to offer.

Cartoon Picture of SEO vs. PPC ads with various tools shown. If your are just beginning your SEO journey, understanding the differences organic SEO and PPC is key. Let Simplified SEO Consulting help you!

What is Organic SEO?

SEO stands for search engine optimization. The goal of SEO is to help your site show up more often in search engine results pages or SERPs. This is accomplished by optimizing your web pages with keywords and phrases that you want to rank for. There are many pros and cons to using organic SEO. Let’s look at a few examples.

Pros of Organic SEO:

ROI

Historically organic search engine optimization can create more return on investment over traditional forms of paid media. This is due in part to the low cost of implementing search engine optimizations on your pages.

Awareness of Your Brand

High-ranking visibility in SERPs can raise brand awareness as you garner more attention from people searching for keywords related to your website. This can result in a positive branding effect as customers who are searching begin associating your brand with answers to their questions.

Credibility and Trust

This is a big one! When your site shows up in organic search results this influences your credibility with your consumer as they look for services. In today’s hypercritical world many consumers automatically skip ads and go straight to organic search results as they feel these are more legitimate and trustworthy connections.

Cost

While there is some cost associated with SEO in regard to who you are paying to do your optimizations or how much of your own personal time you are investing in optimizing, the overall cost is more effective than other marketing tactics.

Sustainability Over the Long-Term

Unlike PPC ads SEO continues to be profitable even after you stop actively paying or optimizing. Efforts put in place to develop organic traffic can sustain your business over a long period of time even if budget concerns do not allow you to invest the time, energy, or funds to the process at the time.

Improved Clickthrough Rates or CTR

It’s been proven that organic SEO results in improved CTR over the long haul. More often than not you can produce more clicks from a well-placed organic search result than you can with a PPC ad.

All of these things lend themselves to the long-term success of SEO but there are some cons to consider.

Graph with SEO metrics highlighted on it. Organic SEO is key to the successful branding and growth of your business. At Simplified SEO Consulting we offer the tips and tools to help you become your own SEO expert! Learn more here.

Cons of SEO:

SEO is a Long-Term Commitment

If you are looking for instantaneous results that will drive consumers to your business in a short period of time, SEO is not the best option. Organic SEO is a long-term commitment that takes consistent input and adjustments for an extended period of time to be successful. It can take months to start seeing results after you optimize your site. This often leads people to feel that their efforts have been for naught.

Competitive Markets

Competition to rank for high search volume keywords can be intense. You must remember that you are not the only business owner who wants to rank for these keywords And understand that you may need to pick and choose which keywords to go after in order to be successful in your strategy.

SEO is Fluid and Changes Rapidly

As stated above SEO is a long-term commitment however that does not mean it’s stagnant. Search engine results and volumes change constantly based on user needs and demands. What’s popular one month could be at the bottom of the list the next and it’s important to keep track of these insights when optimizing your pages for organic search engine results. Google also regularly tweaks and changes its search engine algorithms over 600 times a year. This means that what’s driving search results to the top of the page can change in an instant.

What is Pay Per Click or PPC?

Now let’s examine some pay-per-click or PPC information. As you may have guessed PPC are paid ads that determine your cost based on the number of clicks your ad receives. PPC ads still utilize keywords that you want to rank for but they do so in a more targeted and laser-focused manner.

Pros of PPC:

Reach Your Target Audience

PPC ads allow you to specifically target a group of people based on their interests and demographics. This can help you specifically target your ideal consumer in a more effective and efficient way. Google ads allow you to personalize your campaigns to accomplish this.

Quicker ROI

PPC ads generate a quicker return on investment due to their increased visibility and placement on SERPs. This allows you to accomplish your goal of driving customers to your brand much more quickly and effectively than traditional organic SEO can.

SERP Position

PPC ads or just that, advertisements, as a result, will appear at the top of search engine results pages above typical organic search engine results. This can drive more consumers to your brand simply by virtue of placement on the page and visibility.

Speed and Agility

As stated, developing good organic visibility can take time while a PPC campaign can be created in days and see results within weeks. PPC ads allow you to get in front of customers much more quickly and that speed offers you agility. If you have an upcoming event or a new service you want to promote, the speed of PPC  ads offers you the ability to do so in a very short period of time with a very quick turnaround.

Measurability of Success

PPC ads, unlike organic SEO, allow more collection of analytics related to conversion tracking, integration, and what keywords are converting at what percentage and cost. This information can then be utilized to help inform your organic keyword research into what keywords are converting and should be used long-term to drive consumers to your site.

Stability

PPC ads are not at the mercy of the same market volatility that organic search results are. While there are changes, they tend to have a lower impact and are more easily managed by carefully utilizing match types and analysis of search terms and quickly adjusting your PPC ad to meet those changes.

With that being said there are some cons that come along with PPC ad campaigns. Let’s look at a few.

cartoon of a group of workers creating a PPC campaign. Let us help you get the best return on investment from your website. An SEO specialist is here to help you learn and apply SEO tactics successfully!

Cons of PPC:

Cost

Because of the nature of PPC ad campaigns, the cost can quickly add up. If you are not monitoring your cost per click regularly and adjusting your budget consistently you can easily spend thousands of dollars before you realize it.

Short Term

PPC is great in the short term but in the long term, it is not such a good investment. As the name suggests it is paid so it requires constant investment. So when you stop paying for the ads the return on investment dries up immediately and you no longer have access to the benefits as you do with ongoing organic SEO

Clicks Do Not Always Turn Into Conversions

Another downside to PPC ads is the fact that just because the consumer is clicking on your ad does not mean they are going to follow through with utilizing services from you. If a high number of people are clicking on your ad but there is no conversion your cost per click and spend on your PPC ad campaign can increase without seeing any ROI. It is important to not just set a PPC ad and forget it.  You must also ensure that your website is set up to convince visitors that your products and services are valuable.

Closing thoughts about Organic SEO vs. PPC

As you can see there are upsides and downsides to both organic SEO and PPC ads. Ideally, these two will work synergistically together to provide the greatest return on investment for your business. For all points and purposes if your budget is limited and you are in this for the long-haul organic SEO may be the best way to start. Then as the need arises for new services or upcoming events you can use pay-per-click ads to get in front of consumers quickly to establish dominance in those new categories.

Key Takeaway

However, there is one key factor to remember about using PPC and organic SEO together. If you are optimizing for a group of keywords in your organic SEO you do not want to optimize for those same keywords with your paid advertisements. This could result in your PPC ads cannibalizing your organic SEO results. You would basically be spending money for something you were already ranking for organically. Always make sure your organic SEO optimizations and keywords are different from what you are targeting for your PPC ads.

Best Law Firm Advertising Examples: How to Market Your Law Firm Online Successfully

Now, let’s explore the practical steps to market your law firm effectively on the internet:

Create an Engaging Website: Your website serves as your virtual office. It should be professionally designed, user-friendly, and mobile-responsive. Think of it as the digital embodiment of your law practice, offering visitors a glimpse into your expertise and values.

Example: Consider the website of “Smith & Associates Personal Injury Law.” It boasts an intuitive layout, easy navigation, and informative content, making it an excellent model for personal injury attorneys.

Harness the Power of Content: Content is the heart of your online presence. Regularly publishing high-quality, informative, and relevant content showcases your legal expertise and helps your website rank higher in search engine results.

Example: “Johnson Law Firm’s Blog” features well-researched articles addressing common questions and concerns of personal injury victims. By providing valuable insights, this blog establishes trust and attracts potential clients.

Leverage Social Media: Engaging with your audience on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn can enhance your online presence. Share legal insights, updates, and engage in meaningful conversations with your followers.

Example: “Legal Insights LLP” utilizes its LinkedIn page to share legal updates, industry trends, and articles authored by its attorneys. This active engagement positions the firm as an industry thought leader.

Know Your Audience: Understand the needs, concerns, and preferences of your target audience. Tailor your content and messaging to resonate with potential clients effectively.

Keyword Research: Conduct in-depth keyword research to identify the phrases potential clients are searching for. Optimize your website and content around these keywords.

Content Strategy: Develop a content strategy that encompasses blog posts, articles, videos, and other content types. Ensure your content addresses the pain points and queries of your audience.

Social Media Plan: Determine which social media platforms your audience frequents and create a content plan for each. Consistently engage with your followers and encourage them to share your content.

Paid Advertising: If your budget allows, consider paid advertising on platforms like Google Ads or Facebook Ads. These targeted campaigns can significantly increase visibility.

Email Marketing: Develop an email marketing strategy to nurture leads and maintain relationships with clients. Provide valuable content and offers to encourage engagement.

The Role of SEO in Law Firm Marketing

SEO plays a pivotal role in law firm digital marketing. It involves optimizing your online content and website to rank higher in search engine results. When potential clients search for legal services online, effective SEO ensures your firm’s website is among the top results they see.

Ethical SEO: A Guiding Light in Digital Marketing

Ethical SEO practices are essential for any law firm looking to maintain a positive online reputation. Avoid unethical tactics like keyword stuffing, link schemes, or duplicate content, which can harm your website’s credibility and lead to penalties from search engines.

Example of Ethical SEO: “Lawwise Legal Services” focuses on providing valuable information about various legal topics through its blog. By consistently publishing informative content and engaging with user comments, they build credibility and avoid shady SEO practices.

Benefits of Digital Marketing for Lawyers

Implementing a comprehensive digital marketing strategy offers numerous benefits for lawyers, especially personal injury attorneys:

  • Increased Visibility: You become more discoverable online, attracting potential clients actively seeking your services.
  • Established Credibility: Regularly publishing insightful content and engaging with your audience builds trust and establishes your firm as an authoritative source of legal expertise.
  • Targeted Marketing: Digital marketing allows you to precisely target your audience, ensuring that your message reaches those most likely to require your legal services.
  • Better Conversion Rates: High-quality content, coupled with effective SEO, results in higher conversion rates as potential clients trust your expertise and choose to engage with your firm.
  • Enhanced Reputation: Ethical digital marketing practices, including managing online reviews and maintaining a positive online presence, enhance your firm’s reputation.

What Does Digital Marketing Do? Help Lawyers Succeed.

In today’s digital legal landscape, marketing your law firm online is not only beneficial but necessary for success. By creating a strong online presence, engaging with your audience, and adhering to ethical SEO practices, personal injury attorneys can connect with potential clients, build trust, and thrive in the digital age. There are many tools out there that exist to support you in finding the best ways to optimize your business, site, and content. Some tools are more invaluable than others to meet basic SEO tenets such as keyword research. Others can help give deeper insights to private practice owners looking to take their business to the next level. One of these handy tools to help gain an edge over the competition is referred to as a heatmap.

First Off, What Is A Heatmap?

But, they often work to help therapists understand how visitors interact with their websites. Forms and surveys can also accomplish this. But, the results they share may or may not be accurate with what visitors actually do on the site. Heatmaps on the other hand visually show the most popular and overlooked parts of a page. This can be represented with a red to a blue color gradient. The more blue an area, the less engagement it has on the page. Similarly, the more red an area is, the more engagement there is. Yet, not all heatmaps track the same information. Different types of heatmaps may offer insight into aspects of your site such as:

So, let’s talk about some of the other types of heatmaps. Plus, how they can support local SEO for therapists.

Types of Heatmaps

When it comes to the most common heatmaps you may find, the top three include scroll maps, click maps, and hover maps. Each uses heatmaps in different but subtle ways. Scroll maps show you how far users scroll down your page. By doing so, you can better understand if they are reaching the most vital parts of your page that you want them to see, and where to place your most important content. Click maps also offer similar support. But, these focus on where users click most often on a page. This insight can help you determine which links or buttons are most popular on a page. Finally, hover maps also serve a similar role in tracking where users hover their mouse cursors most often on a page. This gives an idea of where most of the focus on the page is being placed, and how long people are hovering in a certain area.

How Heatmaps Can Benefit SEO for Therapists

Making use of the data heatmaps provide can offer a variety of benefits as previously mentioned. One of these benefits comes in the form of giving insight as to how effective the design of a given page is. By using heatmaps, therapists can better understand what aspects of a page may be getting overlooked by visitors to their site. As a result, they can work to redesign elements of their site in a way that improves the different elements the heatmap addresses. These elements can include:

  • The actual design and layout of the site/page
  • Optimizing the length of content on the site
  • Understanding the type of content visitors spend most of their time reading
  • Redistributing internal and external links on the page

However, this is not the only information that can be gained by using heatmaps. With different tools come alternative benefits.

Different Heatmaps Offer Different Benefits

With this data, therapists can better focus their keyword efforts on specific location indicators they hope to rank for. Plus, they can get also get an idea of what competitors in the area may be trying to rank for the same terms!

Conclusion

Heatmaps come in different forms and offer a variety of different insights. Therapists can use these insights to gain an edge in both on and off-page optimization. In today’s digital age, the healthcare industry is recognizing the immense value of online visibility and accessibility. As more patients turn to the internet for health-related information and services, the role of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) in healthcare has become increasingly vital.

In this comprehensive guide, we will explore the significance of keywords in healthcare SEO and how they can be leveraged to empower your private practice or other small business in the healthcare industry to grow and thrive. Let’s dive into the world of healthcare SEO and uncover the strategies that will help your practice thrive in the digital landscape.

The Significance of Keywords in Healthcare SEO

Understanding the role of keywords in healthcare SEO is fundamental to creating a robust online presence. Keywords are the building blocks of SEO, acting as bridges between what patients are searching for and the information or services your practice offers. They serve as the compass guiding your potential patients to your website and ensuring that your practice is discoverable amidst the vast digital healthcare landscape.

What is SEO?

Before delving deeper into healthcare SEO, let’s clarify the concept of SEO itself. SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is a set of strategies and techniques designed to enhance the visibility and ranking of a website on search engine results pages (SERPs). In simpler terms, it’s about making sure your website appears prominently when people search for relevant healthcare information or services online.

Why is Medical SEO Important?

The importance of medical SEO cannot be overstated if you own a business in the healthcare sector that you are looking to grow. It is the linchpin that connects your practice to the vast pool of potential patients actively seeking healthcare solutions on the internet. A well-executed medical SEO strategy ensures that your practice doesn’t remain hidden in the depths of the internet but emerges as a beacon of trust, credibility, and expertise.

The Basics of Keywords

Keywords form the foundation of SEO. They serve as the language that connects patients’ queries with your practice. Most good SEO strategy starts with identifying some keywords to target, though one danger I’ll discuss below is overthinking keywords.  To harness the power of keywords effectively, we need to start with the basics.

What are Keywords?

Keywords are words or phrases that people enter into search engines when seeking information, products, or services. In the context of healthcare SEO, they represent the terms patients commonly use when looking for medical professionals, treatments, or health-related advice.

For example, if someone is looking for a new family medicine doctor, they might search, “family doctor near me.” Or, someone with a back injury who has heard a chiropractor might search “chiropractor in (insert city name) for back pain,” or someone might search “best SLP in (insert city name).” Any of those phrases in quotations would be keywords.

Types of Keywords in Healthcare SEO

Keywords come in various forms, each serving a distinct purpose in healthcare SEO. The two categories you’ll hear about most often are short-tail and long-tail keywords.

Short-tail Keywords

Short-tail keywords are concise phrases typically consisting of one to three words. They are broad and capture a wide range of search intents. For example, “family doctor” or “pediatrician” are short-tail keywords.

Long-tail Keywords

Long-tail keywords, on the other hand, are more specific and extended phrases. They often reflect a user’s specific query or intention, such as “family doctor in Los Angeles who accepts Blue Cross insurance.”

The Role of Keywords in SEO

Keywords are the compass that guides your online strategy. They influence the content you create, the structure of your website, and how you interact with search engines. Essentially, keywords are the bridge connecting patients to the healthcare solutions you provide.

That said, a problem I’ve often seen is people overthinking keywords. I’ve seen private practice owners spend literally weeks trying to choose the “perfect keywords.” So, while doing some keyword research truly is essential in keyword research so you have a direction to guide your SEO strategy, it’s also important to not let keyword research overwhelm you to the point where you don’t actually move forward with an SEO strategy.

At some point, you have to move beyond just identifying phrases your patients are using and start actually creating content they’ll find helpful or optimizing the content you have so they can find you.

What is SEO Content for Healthcare?

Once you’ve identified the keywords your patients are likely using to find your services online, the next step in your SEO strategy will be to begin creating content around those keywords. When you know what keywords to use, you have some idea what content people are looking for.

For example, if I’m a chiropractor and identify that people are searching for the long tail keyphrase of, “Can a chiropractor help with headaches,” that in and of itself is a FANTASTIC title for SEO content right there.  Or, if you’re a functional medicine doctor and your keyword research leads you to discover that there are people Googling, “What is a functional medicine doctor,” that is exactly where you should start! Begin by writing a comprehensive piece of content on your website that goes into great detail about what it is you do.

I’ll be honest, this blog post right here is an example of SEO content.  My own keyword research led me to discover that people have been searching for “healthcare SEO keywords” and that started me down the rabbit hole that’s leading to this pretty comprehensive article on the topic that is hopefully answering a lot of your questions about this topic.

So, you get the idea. SEO content for healthcare is any content you create that will answer questions or explain the concepts that your patients are searching for online.

Creating Content with SEO in Mind

SEO content in healthcare encompasses various types of content, including blogs, service pages, and any informative materials on your website aimed at engaging and educating your patients. This content not only serves your audience but also helps search engines understand when and where to rank your website.

Quality vs. Quantity in Healthcare SEO Content

While content is crucial, quality always surpasses quantity in healthcare SEO. Your content should not only be abundant but also highly informative, trustworthy, and relevant to your patients’ needs.

This is something that I feel is a bit of a dance. How do you get enough content on your website that Google really understands what your website is about why making sure it’s still high enough quality to truly help your patients? Honestly, it’s a dance. But it’s an important question to keep top of mind. Because while you do need a pretty decent amount of content on your website for search engines to really understand what patients you help and how you help them, you are ultimately responsible for the content on your website, so you do want to make sure it’s accurate and represents you well.

The Importance of Relevance

Relevance is the key to effective SEO content. Ensuring that your content directly addresses the questions and concerns your patients have is paramount to engaging and retaining your audience.

If you create content simply for the purpose of SEO or only to have a blog post that uses some keyword you’ve discovered has a high search volume, it may not help you as much as you’d like. Content that’s about some off-the-wall topic unrelated to your practice will stand out to Google as well. Furthermore, it won’t attract the right type of audience to your website.

The Process of Keyword Research

Now that we’ve covered the fundamentals, it’s time to dive into the process of keyword research, a critical aspect of healthcare SEO.

How do you actually do keyword research? What tools do you need?  How do you go about choosing specific keywords to target? If you’re reading this blog, I know you likely have a lot of these questions. So, let’s dive right in.

What is Keyword Research?

Keyword research involves identifying the most relevant and effective keywords to target in your healthcare SEO strategy. It’s about discovering the terms your potential patients are using to search for healthcare services.

The Tools for Keyword Research

To embark on successful keyword research, you need the right tools. That said, there are a LOT of keyword research tools out there.  And even our team uses a variety of tools. Furthermore, you’ll find that oftentimes using different tools shows you slightly different things.  Here are a few different ones that we have used:

Google Keyword Planner

Google’s Keyword Planner is a valuable resource for discovering keywords. It provides insights into keyword frequency and difficulty for specific geographic areas, helping you tailor your strategy. I don’t personally find this one very useful, but have known a lot of people who have. If you already use Google Adwords, you might like this one.

SEMrush

SEMrush is a comprehensive SEO tool that offers keyword research capabilities. It provides in-depth insights into keyword competition and search volume, aiding your decision-making process. SEMrush is one of my personal favorites, but honestly, it’s a little complicated to use and a little expensive if you’re really only working on one or two websites.

Keywords Everywhere

Keywords Everywhere is a browser extension that offers keyword data while you search the web. It’s a handy tool for on-the-fly keyword discovery. This has a great Chrome extension and I’ve known a lot of different people who use this. Honestly, I have found myself using this one less and less over the years just because I find I get more helpful information from KWFinder or SEMRush.

KWFinder

KWFinder is through Mangools and is our favorite at Simplified SEO Consulting. Everyone on our team uses this one more than any other tool. You can choose a specific geographic location like your state or even a more specific city/metropolitan area.  It gives a ton of information but isn’t too overwhelming. Generally, if people are going with just one, this is the one I recommend.

Answer the Public

Answer the Public is a unique tool that visualizes search query data in a user-friendly format. It’s excellent for uncovering long-tail keywords and questions people commonly ask.

For long-tail keywords, tools like Answer the Public are particularly useful. And long tail keywords are a very important part of your SEO strategy, because these keywords often have lower competition, making it easier for your practice to rank for them.

How Do I Find Unique Keywords for SEO?

First, I love that you’re asking this question.  I was really excited when my own keyword research unearthed this as a popular search term. Why? Because we find that so many of our private practice clients want to use the same general search terms like “private practice physician near me” or “family medicine doctor near me.” Unfortunately, these more general terms are often very competitive to rank for and the patients looking for them might be less invested than someone looking for a more specific term like, “family medicine doctor specializing in geriatrics” or “functional medicine doctor.” So, unearthing unique keywords can be really, really powerful for your SEO strategy. But how do you find those magical keywords with less competition that will attract patients who get really excited about you as a practice?

Listening to Your Patients

One of the most effective methods is listening to your patients. Take note of the words and phrases they use when describing their healthcare needs during appointments.

Think of a newer patient you have who you are REALLY excited to work with. Someone who came in and you just knew you’ll be able to make a huge difference for them. What brought them in? How did they describe that pain? THIS is likely your ideal clients and the terms they used to describe why they sought you out are likely perfect keywords for you to target!

Admission Forms

Examine the forms patients fill out when they visit your practice. These forms may contain valuable insights into their concerns and expectations. What symptoms are they checking off? Those might be keywords. What questions are they writing in at the bottom of the sheet in the blank space? There’s a fantastic blog post. These forms can’t be shared online of course (PLEASE always consider patient privacy-never take any SEO advice that would violate that!), but a look at what your patients are saying and asking on this type of documentation can give you great ideas for what kind of content would be helpful.

What are Good SEO Keywords?

In your quest to conquer the world of healthcare SEO, there’s one crucial truth to keep in mind: the most valuable keywords are those your ideal patients are genuinely using. While it may seem tempting to chase after the most popular terms in the medical field, it’s essential to strike a balance between keyword competition and difficulty.

The cornerstone of successful healthcare SEO is relevance. Your chosen keywords must align with the nature of your work and resonate with your ideal clients. Building your unique health keywords list is an intricate process, dependent on various factors such as the type of patients you aim to attract, the local dialect, insurance preferences, and more.

What Are the Most Searched-for Healthcare Terms?

We often get asked about the top medical keywords or for a specific list of keywords every medical professional in private practice should target. However, SEO isn’t that simple and keyword research certainly isn’t. You’ll want to develop your own health keywords list based on the type of patients you’re trying to attract, the dialect in your local area, what insurances you do or don’t take and a variety of other factors.  So, while you might be curious about a definitive list of top medical keywords, healthcare SEO simply isn’t one-size-fits-all.

Healthcare SEO is about customization. You must develop a tailored list of health keywords based on your target patient demographics, local dialect, insurance considerations, and other factors.

What People Search for On Google About Health: Creating Helpful Content

Informative content is the cornerstone of successful healthcare SEO. By understanding what your patients are searching for, you can provide valuable answers and establish trust.

When you understand what your patients are searching for, you have the opportunity to truly answer their questions and doing so helps both your patients AND Google

What is SEO content for healthcare?

In the realm of healthcare, SEO content encompasses various forms of digital material, including blogs, service pages, and any information available on your website that aims to provide valuable insights and assistance to your patients. It’s more than just content; it’s a strategic tool that not only caters to the needs of your patients but also plays a pivotal role in informing Google about where and when to rank your website. By delivering genuinely helpful content that addresses patients’ queries and concerns, you create a win-win scenario—providing valuable resources for your audience while bolstering your online visibility and rankings within search engine results pages.

Navigating On-Page SEO with Keywords

Once you have your keywords selected, and you’ve created some awesome content, it is time to start optimizing that content. Optimizing content is when you take the content you’ve created on your website and start making sure there are keywords strategically placed so Google really starts to understand that this content should show up in  Google search results when someone searches for that particular phrase.

On-Page SEO Optimization

On-page SEO involves optimizing individual pages on your website to rank higher on search engines. It includes various elements, such as page titles, meta descriptions, header tags, and keyword placement. There are a variety of components and we’ll only be able to touch on a few here, but this is a good list to get you started and a list that considers specifically where keywords can be used.

Incorporating Keywords in Page Titles

Page titles are one place you can include medical keywords when you’re working on SEO. Incorporate relevant keywords into your page titles to signal to search engines what your content is about. For example, if your keyword research showed that people are searching for “adrenal fatigue,” you want to include the term “adrenal fatigue” in the title of your article on that topic.

Most people are pretty good about doing this. However, occasionally we do see private practice owners write really fun titles that are meant to draw people in. However, sometimes these creative titles don’t actually use the keywords that the practitioner wants to rank on search engines. However, if you’re working on healthcare SEO, it’s important to remember that you want your titles to directly use the keywords your clients are searching for in the title.

The Role of Meta Descriptions

Meta descriptions are very short descriptions (usually under 160 characters) of what a page of your website is about. This is also a description of the page that you’re recommending Google use in SERP results (the list of results when someone does a search) to explain to someone what your page is about and why they should click on your website. Craft engaging meta descriptions that entice users to click while including relevant keywords.

Header Tags and Keyword Placement

Use header tags (H1, H2, H3) to structure your content. These tags not only enhance readability but also offer opportunities to include keywords strategically. When you’ve done a great job with creating SEO and patient-friendly headings, someone should be able to scan your page and have a good idea of what your page is about.

Local SEO for Healthcare Providers

Local SEO is especially relevant for healthcare providers as they often serve specific geographic areas. And, local SEO is something we get a lot of questions about.

Local SEO and Its Importance

Local SEO focuses on optimizing your online presence to attract local patients. It ensures that your practice appears in local search results when patients seek nearby healthcare services. Basically, local SEO is anything you do to help really communicate to Google where you are relevant.

Where do your ideal patients live, work, and spend time? Those are the locations you want your business to show up on Google for. Local SEO will help you communicate that to SEO.

Optimizing Your Google Business Profile

A crucial aspect of local SEO is optimizing your Google Business Profile. Complete your GMB listing with accurate information, including your practice name, address, phone number (NAP), and business hours.

Local Citations and NAP Consistency

Consistency is key in local SEO. Ensure that your practice’s name, address, and phone number (NAP) are consistent across all online platforms, directories, and listings.

Measuring Success with SEO Analytics

Ok, so you found some keywords and started using those to start optimizing your website. But how do you know if your SEO is working? How do you know if you’re getting a good return on that investment of time and/or money you’re putting into this? To gauge the effectiveness of your healthcare SEO efforts, you must delve into SEO analytics.

Analyzing Key SEO Metrics

First of all, if you’re targeting specific keywords we strongly recommend tracking how you’re ranking for those. There are lots of keyword-tracking tools out there. We use a custom dashboard for our SEO clients, but even keeping an Excel document that you keep a list of keywords and check how you’re ranking for those each month can give you some information. Then, you can begin to dive into other key SEO metrics such as website traffic, click-through rate, and average length of user sessions. These metrics provide valuable insights into your SEO performance.

What Are the Best Practices for Healthcare SEO?

Successful healthcare SEO is rooted in best practices that prioritize both your practice’s needs and the requirements of your patients.

Prioritizing Patients’ Needs

First and foremost, always prioritize your patients’ needs. Ultimately, your website is for your patients. And, Google rewards websites that provide an exceptional user experience and valuable information.

Following Google’s Guidelines

Staying aligned with Google’s guidelines is non-negotiable in healthcare SEO. Avoid shortcuts or blackhat techniques, as they can result in penalties. It’s worth noting that Google updates it’s guidelines from time to time so you do want to stay up to date with those updates.

Consulting an SEO Expert

Healthcare SEO is a specialized skill. And it does take a TON of time if you want to learn to do it yourself. So, you may want to consider outsourcing your healthcare SEO to an expert who understands the unique challenges and opportunities within the healthcare industry. Even if you do want to optimize your own website, I highly recommend getting some training specific to SEO in the healthcare field as it will take you a lot longer if you don’t have some support as you move through the process.

Common Mistakes to Avoid in Healthcare SEO

Avoid falling into common pitfalls that can hinder your healthcare SEO progress. It’s important to steer clear of unethical SEO techniques (in the field often called “blackhat SEO”) or SEO scams that promise quick results but often lead to long-term issues. Unfortunately, if it sounds too good to be true it likely is.

Embracing SEO Trends in Healthcare

To maintain a competitive edge, it’s crucial to stay updated on emerging SEO trends within the healthcare sector.

Why Is Medical SEO Important?

Medical SEO holds paramount importance in today’s digital age due to several compelling reasons. Firstly, it fosters trust and credibility, crucial for healthcare practitioners aiming to establish a strong online presence. By optimizing their websites, medical professionals not only gain credibility in the eyes of patients but also instill confidence in search engines, thereby enhancing their rankings. Secondly, it’s a powerful tool for attracting highly targeted patients. Effective SEO ensures that your healthcare practice appears prominently when potential patients search for relevant services, driving organic traffic of individuals actively seeking your expertise. Moreover, staying competitive in the healthcare industry necessitates a robust online presence, and SEO helps practices maintain that competitive edge. Lastly, by embracing medical SEO, healthcare practices empower themselves to reach and educate a broader audience, fostering patient engagement and enhancing the overall quality of care they provide.

Building Trust and Credibility

Building trust and credibility is a core aspect of medical SEO. When healthcare practices invest in optimizing their online presence, they signal to both patients and search engines that they are dedicated to providing valuable and reliable information. Patients are more likely to choose a healthcare provider whose website is informative, user-friendly, and ranks well in search results. This trust extends to the medical expertise of the practitioners themselves. Furthermore, search engines like Google reward trustworthy websites with higher rankings, reinforcing the practice’s credibility among both patients and the digital landscape. In essence, medical SEO is a pathway to creating a solid foundation of trust and credibility that forms the bedrock of a successful healthcare practice.

Attracting Targeted Patients

Effective medical SEO ensures that your practice attracts patients genuinely interested in your services, resulting in higher conversion rates.

It’s not just about getting to the top of Google for a few keywords. It’s not even just about getting new patients to call. It’s about getting the right patients to call.

Medical SEO Strategy Example: Functional Medicine Doctor SEO Strategy

Simplified SEO Consulting started dipping our toes into the world of SEO beyond mental health into the more general healthcare world by working with a couple of functional medicine doctors. We found that we really love working on SEO for functional medicine doctors. And, it was very important here to find the right keywords. What are the keywords the specific type of patients that are looking for that type of holistic approach to healthcare? That was our mission. If we had just taken a list of the most searched healthcare keywords on Google, it wouldn’t have gotten as good of results for those functional medicine results. Why? Because once somebody lands on the website, certain types of potential patients are more likely than others to turn into paying patients for those functional medicine doctors.

So, we identified keywords related to and created in-depth SEO content related to topics such as adrenal fatigue, hormonal issues, thyroid imbalance, gene testing, and other services that those functional medicine doctors were offering. Why? Because those were the topics that their ideal patients were searching for.

By increasing how a functional medicine doctor ranked for those types of words, we were able to drive more qualified traffic to their websites. Then, more potential clients reach out. And, that’s how we’re able to play a small role in the growth of functional medicine private practices.

Staying Competitive in Healthcare

In a competitive healthcare landscape, SEO is the key to differentiating your practice and staying ahead of the competition.

The truth is that the SEO landscape has gotten more, and more competitive over the years. And I feel like in the healthcare industry, COVID-19 really sped up the race for healthcare professionals to improve their digital marketing. Therefore, SEO takes a little more work these days.

Furthermore, SEO is a constantly evolving industry. Search engines are constantly looking for ways to make their search results better, for ways to improve the search experience for their user. And, that means that they’re updating those search algorithms. So, to stay competitive we also have to be aware of how the SEO landscape is changing.

Empowering Healthcare Practices with SEO

Empower your healthcare practice by embracing the potential of SEO. It’s not just about ranking higher; it’s about transforming your online presence into a patient-centric resource.

If you’re reading this blog, chances are you already know about the importance of SEO, also known as Search Engine Optimization. But, there’s a second, often overlooked, aspect to SEO that is extremely important as well. It’s called analytics. Analytics can be a scary word that brings to mind thoughts of statistics, mathematical equations, and computations that many of us just don’t understand. However, analytics really aren’t that scary and they play an important role in SEO. So, what are analytics? Let’s take a look.

Analytics and SEO: The Intersection of Knowledge and Application

The definition of analytics, in simple terms, is the process of discovering, interpreting, and communicating significant patterns in data. Ok, maybe that is not so simple! Let’s try this, analytics allow us to see insights and meaningful data that we might not otherwise notice in relation to our SEO efforts.

Four Key Reasons to Utilize Analytics with Your SEO:

Analytics can tell you where your organic site traffic is coming from.

This is important because understanding where your traffic is coming from tells you how to attract more potential visitors. Are clients coming from referrals or google searches? This helps determine if your SEO is driving your target customers to your brand through organic search or other sources.

Analytics help determine which keywords you should attempt to rank your private practice for.

Analytic tools can tell you the monthly search volume of the keyword, ranking difficulty, and where you are ranking for that keyword. Analytics also monitor your movement up or down in rankings, so you know which keywords need more optimizations!

Progress tracking made easy

Analytics help you track your overall progress with your website’s optimizations through a number of key metrics listed below:

Organic traffic

This is any traffic that comes to your website that originates from a search engine. Organic traffic is not paid for.

Bounce rate

This tells you the number of visitors to your website that leave after viewing only one page. A high bounce rate could indicate a problem with the user experience on your site that needs to be addressed.

Returning Visitors vs. New Visitors

This metric tells you how many new individuals are visiting your page versus visitors that have been there before (such as an existing client). The more new users the better as this means you are more visible on the internet.

Page load speeds

This refers to the amount of time it takes for your webpage to fully load for your users. Slow load times not only drive clients away from your page but also negatively impact your SEO results with Google. Statistics state that if a page takes longer than 3 seconds to load, more than1/4 of all users will click away from your site.

Conversion rates

This is the percentage of people who visit your site and complete the desired task before leaving. For example, say your goal is to get people to fill out the online contact form. Conversion rate can measure the percentage of visitors to your site who complete this task. This allows you to see how compelling and successful the SEO work on your site is.

Click through rate (CTR)

This last metric measures the number of people who see your result on the search engine result page (SERP) such as the Google search results and actually click on the link to go to your page. The more people clicking to your page the better! This is where your meta descriptions come into play. A great meta description will draw people to your site because they want to learn more. Learn more about writing the perfect meta description here.

Return on Investment

Lastly, and maybe most importantly, analytics help you measure your return on investment (ROI). When you look at all the combined analytics listed above together, they paint a picture of how well your SEO work, applications, and optimizations are working together to drive your ideal client to your site. This lets you see in real-time on a regular basis how effective your monthly SEO spend is and what needs improvement.

In the digital age, where search engines serve as gateways to information and services, the question of whether local SEO is worth it for personal injury attorneys is more than a mere query—it’s a pivotal consideration. Local SEO, a strategic approach to optimizing your online presence for local search results, holds transformative potential for personal injury lawyers. In this persuasive exploration, we’ll delve into the merits of a robust local SEO strategy, highlighting its power to elevate your practice, increase profits, and solidify your standing as a trusted local authority. Let’s discover more about SEO for personal injury attorneys.

What is a Local SEO Strategy?

Before delving into the worth of local SEO for personal injury attorneys, let’s clarify what a local SEO strategy entails. Local SEO is a specialized digital marketing approach aimed at enhancing your visibility within your geographic area. It involves optimizing various online elements, including your website, Google My Business listing, local citations, and reviews, to ensure that when local residents search for services you offer, your firm appears at the forefront of search results.

Is Doing Local SEO Worth It?

The resounding answer is a resolute yes. Local SEO isn’t just worth considering; it’s worth investing in wholeheartedly. As a personal injury attorney, your clientele largely consists of individuals seeking legal aid in their immediate vicinity. A well-crafted local SEO strategy positions you as the go-to solution for their legal needs. Imagine potential clients searching for “personal injury lawyer near me” and discovering your firm with ease. This is the power of local SEO—connecting you with clients who are actively seeking your services in your area.

Local SEO Benefit #1: Localized Relevance and High-Quality Leads

When it comes to marketing, relevance is key. Local SEO takes your digital presence a step further by ensuring your firm is showcased to the right audience at the right time. Potential clients who search for keywords specific to personal injury cases within your locality are much more likely to be seeking legal assistance imminently. By targeting these localized, high-intent searches, local SEO directs valuable traffic to your website. These visitors are not casual browsers; they are actively seeking solutions—making them incredibly valuable leads with a high potential for conversion.

Local SEO Benefit #2: Building Trust and Credibility

In the realm of legal services, trust and credibility are paramount. Local SEO plays a pivotal role in establishing and reinforcing these qualities. When potential clients consistently encounter your firm’s name in local search results, it fosters a sense of familiarity and reliability. Furthermore, local SEO often involves managing and encouraging reviews on platforms such as Google My Business. Positive reviews from satisfied clients act as powerful endorsements, assuring potential clients that your firm is reputable and capable of handling their legal needs. This gradual buildup of trust can significantly influence their decision-making process, leading to increased inquiries and conversions.

Does Local SEO Really Work for Small Businesses?

Absolutely, SEO works wonders for small businesses, including personal injury law firms. Contrary to traditional marketing methods that cast a wide net and hope for the best, SEO targets individuals who are actively looking for the services you provide. Instead of passively waiting for clients to stumble upon your practice, local SEO ensures you’re visible to those who are most likely to convert.

Is Local SEO Important for a Small Local Business Website?

You may be asking, is local SEO important? It’s crucial! Especially for small local businesses like personal injury law firms. Consider this: when someone faces a legal matter, they’re inclined to seek assistance from a local professional who understands local regulations, nuances, and has a presence within the community. Local SEO solidifies your connection with the local audience, allowing you to become the trusted authority they turn to in times of need. This can also be a powerful tool for promoting a small law firm using SEO.

How Does Local SEO Increase Profit?

The true worth of local SEO is unveiled when we explore how it enhances profitability sustainably over the long term. Here’s how:

Targeted Audience: Local SEO brings you in direct contact with potential clients who are genuinely interested in your services. This targeted approach increases the likelihood of conversion and reduces the need to invest in broader, less effective marketing strategies.

Enhanced Visibility: By consistently appearing in local search results, you establish top-of-mind awareness within your community. When individuals require legal assistance, your firm is the first name they recall, leading to more inquiries and engagements.

Quality ROI: Local SEO delivers a quality return on investment. Unlike costly advertising methods that might yield short-lived results, a well-executed local SEO strategy builds a robust online presence that continues to attract clients over time.

Establishing Trust: Local SEO not only makes you visible but also helps build trust. Positive reviews, accurate business information, and a strong online reputation portray you as a reliable and authoritative choice, further encouraging potential clients to choose your firm.

Long-Term Growth: Local SEO fosters steady, organic growth. As you build a strong foundation in your local community, satisfied clients recommend your services, and your practice becomes synonymous with excellence in personal injury law.

Partnering for Local SEO Excellence

In conclusion, the value of local SEO for personal injury attorneys extends beyond visibility—it’s about strategic growth and long-term profitability. The merits of a well-crafted local SEO strategy are undeniable, propelling your firm to the forefront of local search results and the minds of potential clients. To fully harness the profit-boosting potential of local SEO, consider partnering with expert SEO services that understand the intricacies of the legal landscape and the digital domain. Claiming your Listing and Adding Important information

Before you start optimizing your listing, you must ensure you have either created a new listing or have claimed it if it already exists on Yelp. This will be the only way you will can have the ability to change or add additional information about your practice. After doing so, you can then add vital information about your practice. This should include essential points like:

  • Your name, address, and phone number (NAP)
  • Hours of operation
  • Business description
  • Physical address
  • Site URL
  • Notable locations/businesses that are nearby
  • Primary services offered
  • Business categorizations
  • History of the business

While ensuring that these points are addressed is important, there are others that may not be applicable due to the nature of owning a private practice. For a majority of therapists, services are offered in the form of psychotherapy instead of products that are being sold. As a result, this may be a part of your Yelp listing that you should leave intentionally blank. Yelp won’t count it against you if you don’t list products if you don’t offer them. The nature of therapy is unique, and this is also reflected in the many different businesses that use Yelp such as restaurants, mechanics, hotels, etc.

It is important to ensure you are adding as much accurate information as possible to make the most out of your Yelp page, but making things up for the sake of having more to offer than your competitors will not benefit your listing, or your practice. If anything, this may cause more confusion for potential clients searching for your practice, and result in a loss of credibility. Everything you add or update will be reviewed by Yelp moderators to ensure accuracy, so take care to make sure you are adding the correct information.

Adding Photos

Another important thing to include on your Yelp listing is photos related to your practice. This can include anything from images of the interior of your practice, the clinicians that clients can expect to work with, or exterior photos of your practice to help visitors better identify where you are located. Reviewers can also include photos with their comments, which can be a welcome source of engagement.

Yelp Page Upgrades

It is also worth mentioning that it is possible to actually pay for upgrades to your Yelp listing. These upgrades include additions such as a Call to Action to make it easier for potential clients to reach your site, removal of competitor ads, adding your practice logo, and business highlights. These can help promote the exposure of your practice, but they are in no way a requirement when optimizing your Yelp listing.

Responding to Messages and Reviews

For therapists, getting reviews in an ethical way can be a tricky subject due to the nature of this profession. But, when you start receiving them, it is vital that you respond in a timely, ethical way, whether they be positive or negative. Responding to reviews serves as a chance to foster engagement, and take constructive feedback into consideration. So, create a response that addresses the issue and takes ownership, but also shows appreciation for the comment and the input of the reviewer.

Every now and then, there may also be reviews from unhappy clients or unrelated actors looking to get a reaction. They may be unhappy with services or want “review bomb” a business. Reviews that only seek to harm your reputation can be removed, but they must be addressed carefully by reviewing Yelp’s content guidelines. The line between critical feedback and defamatory comments can be thin depending on the situation, so it is vital to do your homework before deciding to remove anything.

Updating Your Yelp Listing Over Time

Finally, it is also important to mention that you should check in on your Yelp listing over time. Update it as things change with your private practice. This ongoing check-in can happen when responding to reviews. Doing so will help sure your page stays active in the eyes of Google, and potential clients. Plus, this gives you the opportunity to update your listing to include keywords that you may want to focus on. Thus, further improving your ability to show up in the search results for specific services.

Your practice is growing, and so are your responsibilities

An image of many pins in a board being connected by twine. Google My Business in counseling can feel difficult with multiple locations, but Simplified SEO Consulting can help. Learn more about improving SEO for therapists and more. Expanding the reach of your practice can be hard to accomplish, but very rewarding. Along the way, you may learn that managing more than one listing for your practice can be a difficult experience. Having more than one office location Google Business Profile listing can feel like a nightmare depending on the number of locations and listings you have. Managing multiple listings in an effective way often requires strategies for success that are different from managing a singular location.

Many of the same principles that apply to managing a single Google Business Profile listing still apply. However, there are a number of other things that should be taken into account with this local SEO strategy for expanding practices. Addressing and organizing your Google Business Profile listings can help you better manage each of your practice locations. So, today we are going over some of the most strategic decisions you can make to help make Google Business Profile easier to manage with multiple locations.

Verifying More than One Location

The verification process for a single location often involves Google sending a postcard via mail with a code to verify they have the right address. While this would technically work for multiple locations, it is by far the most convenient option. If you have more than 10 locations, you will need to use bulk verification to manage them. This will allow you to manage them in a more centralized, convenient way. In fact, these location groups even allow you to create bulk posts to go out to every Google Business Profile listing rather than having to post to each location one by one.

Google Business Profile also comes with the ability to use bulk edits as well. If info about your practice changes, you can use Google’s bulk edit tool to update all the listings in a location group at once instead of going through them one at a time. But, you must be careful when doing so. Since any changes you make go out to each location, any mistakes or inconsistencies will also spread to each and may harm your site’s creditability in the process.

This is why it’s important to keep your NAP information updated and consistent. Focusing on having the right information will help improve the credibility of your practice, and ensure people can get in contact with you if need be. In addition, you can also personalize each post with location indicators for the area the practice is located. By doing so, you can help improve your local SEO presence, helping you connect with those around you who may be more likely to benefit from your services.

Can you Schedule Posts in Advance?

It is also possible to schedule posts to your Google Business Profile listing to be uploaded at a given date. However, this isn’t an option that is native to Google Business Profile. This may involve outside support from a third party to do so. But, this extra support can help you save hours in preparing posts to go out on a regular basis.

Even though some of the smaller details present on Google Business Profilecan be easy to overlook, taking the time to fill them out can have big benefits in making your listing more competitive. Doing so will give Google more important information about your practice, and may include adding important labels, services, and photos to represent your practice. This is also why adding categories is such a vital part of your Google Business Profile profile. So, take the time to let Google know about these details by personalizing them for each of your office locations. This may include different services specific therapists offer at a given location, different hours of operation, or any other important information pertaining to your practice.

Should I Have More Than A Google Business Profile Account?

For the purposes of managing multiple locations, you will likely only ever need one account to manage each of your locations in an effective way. Having more than one account may be beneficial if you manage more than one type of business. But, for therapists that only offer therapy services, one account is all you should ever need!

Transfering Location Groups

With all the moving parts that go into Google Business Profile, it can be easy to make mistakes early on that can make things more difficult down the road. One such scenario is when Google Business Profile listings are created under the wrong account. You may have encountered this, and feel stressed about deleting an already established listing, but you don’t actually have to! Google Business Profile also provides the ability to transfer your listings from one account to another. Having only one account will make it easier to also keep track of vital info like your name, address, and phone number. Plus, other important practice info. And, you can also grant additional account managers access to the listing, making it even easier to collaborate and synchronize each of your office locations.

Expanding your Practice

Last but not least, it is also important to note that you can add new office locations to your existing location group. It helps to take a moment to review your NAP info when adding a new location as well. Google is always looking to have the most up-to-date and accurate data. So, suggestions for edits may be taken into account through third-party data. This means that there is a chance your business information has changed without you knowing, and may take a double or triple check to ensure everything is correct.

Google provides a variety of resources to help you better understand how your site is performing on the web. Many of these resources such as Google Analytics (GA) can offer invaluable data. But, this tool isn’t without occasional errors that can throw a wrench in your efforts to improve your site. So today, we are diving into some of the more common issues you may experience while using Google Analytics.  And, how you can go about solving them!

It is first worth noting that the data Google Analytics offers isn’t native to your site. To start allowing Google to track data, you must first use your Google account to sign up for Google Analytics and set up your account. After doing so, you have to ensure the tracking code is installed on each page of your website. This may sound like a pain to do, but there are a few ways to simplify the process depending on the site builder you are using.

Installing the Google Analytics Tracking Code

Making sure the tracking code is on each page of your website has become a much easier process with the help of a few other tools often used alongside Google Analytics. The most straightforward method is still embedding the source code into the website. But, this process can be difficult and confusing depending on your familiarity with the technical aspects of your site. If done and cause issues if done incorrectly. As a result, we like to advise against this unless method unless you feel comfortable enough to do so, or if there are no other options.

Alternatives to Install Your Tracking Code

But, one of the best options is the Google Tag Manager. This system allows you to add measurement codes and tags to your website or app. You only need to add the Tag Manager code to your site, and you can use the services available with the Manager. Another useful tool is the Google Analytics plugin itself. This will differ based on the website builder you are using but can offer a simple way to integrate the tool with your site.

Using either of these can help you ensure the tracking code is ending up where it needs to be. However, based on the complex your site and practice are, there is a chance you may still run into other issues along the way.

Data Issues

In the process of reviewing your Google Analytics data, you may find what is reported is nowhere near what it should be. This may manifest in the form of a very low bounce rate, inflated page views, or a variety of other ways depending on the issue. When this data fails to reflect the accurate metrics of your site, it can lead to a great deal of confusion and frustration. But, using the Google Analytics troubleshooting tool can help you get to the root of the issue. In many cases, these issues will relate to:

  • Data missing from reports
  • Pages being reported more than once
  • Internal traffic appearing in reports
  • Bots/spam skewing reported data

An illustration of a screen showing website data. This could represent Google Analytics in counseling and the effects it can have. Learn more about how to rank on google for therapists by contacting simplified seo consulting. 65202While these issues may be different, each involves becoming familiar with creating filters on Google Analytics. Creating filters will allow you to address each of these issues by changing what data you see in your reports. There are a variety of filters that can help your site in many ways. So, becoming familiar with them can go a long way in helping you curate the data you want to see on your site.

When Other Properties Affect Your Data

Depending on the size and scope of your practice, you may also experience issues related to the data of other websites appearing in the wrong report. This can occur if you have multiple Google Analytics properties on the same account and is often a result of the wrong tracking code being installed on the site. Using Google Analytics to track the data for multiple websites can be convenient. But, you must take extra care that it has been configured correctly. Otherwise, you run the risk of skewed results.

One of the best ways to go about solving this involves logging into your Google account. From here, you can go to the property in question and see if it matches the tracking code installed on your site. Another important thing you may want to enable is cross-domain tracking. This will allow you to track data across multiple sites from the same Google Analytics account. But, you will not have the same access to the data you have with a single site. Instead, you will be able to access data including:

  • Pageviews
  • Unique visitors
  • Average session duration
  • Traffic between pages

Taking this into account can help you better understand how best to track the data on your site, and help avoid errors in what is being reported.

Google Analytics can provide invaluable insights about your site. But, the data isn’t always as accurate as one may believe. So, understanding how these issues can arise can help improve the reliability of your data and the overall health of your site. It can feel like a lot to take into account. But, remember that there is always support available should you need it!
