Help! I have a backlink to my website from a porn site!

First off, it’s good that you found it! It is so important to keep an eye on backlinks and monitor any additions or changes in your links. And, you especially want to

know when unfamiliar sites, such as a porn site, are linking to your private practice website. Sadly, this is a very common issue. So please know that you are not alone if you’ve encountered this issue.

Unfortunately, your website is on the world wide web, and anyone who wants to can add a backlink to your site. Furthermore, they don’t even need your permission! Spammy links are super annoying. Plus, they actually hurt your SEO, too. The good news is that we can get rid of them.

Cleaning Up Your Backlinks

If you’re just starting out on your SEO journey, you may not know about how to even check on your backlinks. That is completely okay! When you start out creating and working on a private practice website, there’s a lot to learn. One of the tools we offer as a part of our Done For You SEO Services is a backlink checker, called the Majestic tool. If you are a current client of Simplified’s and you’re wondering about the backlinks to your website, request to discuss this with your SEO Specialist on your next call.

However, if you are not a client of Simplified SEO Consulting, there are other ways to check out the websites linking to your private practice website and get rid of the bad ones.

Getting Rid of Bad Backlinks

There are two main ways to get rid of bad backlinks that are hurting your SEO.

  1. You can certainly reach out to the site owner of the bad link and ask them to completely remove the backlink. Getting it removed is the best option for your SEO, but it is relatively hard to do. Finding the owner of the site, getting contact information, and getting them to respond is highly unlikely.
  2. You can try to disavow the link. In doing this, you are telling Google that you don’t want to be associated with that link and that is not something you want for your site. Disavowing backlinks is considered to be a semi-advanced SEO technique.  If you’d like to try it on your own, check out this site for more information on how to do it!  However, please keep in mind that it may be helpful to get a little support from a professional (example: meeting with one of us for a strategy session or at least watching our Building Backlinks DIY course.

If this all seems overwhelming, remember that our SEO services can do this for you!

We offer a “Building Backlinks” course that teaches you how to disavow those spammy backlinks. Further, the course mentions our favorite ways to do so. Remember that if you are a Done for You SEO client, your SEO specialists will send you this course during your 5th month of SEO work… for free! We can also offer help disavowing backlinks either as part of our “point” system when we’re working on your SEO, teach you how to do all of this during our 12 week intensive SEO training program or we even offer help with backlinks as a service to our SEO alumni.

Regardless of your work with us or not, it is important to keep tabs on your backlinks and remove them at least once per year to keep your SEO rankings at their best. Continue to check on those links from time to time and try to keep up with the bad ones. If you notice there are more bad than good… consider checking out how to earn quality backlinks for your site. This can help boost your SEO and make you feel a lot better about backlinks in general!
